Scarpetta series misses the mark!!

When you’re bringing to life one of the top fictional characters in modern crime literature you might want to at least get the physical characteristics and the plot of the novels correct. That is definitely not the case with the new Scarpetta series. As an individual who has read all of her books I was deeply disappointed and could not even get through the first episode.
It might be a great series for those who have never read the books, but for those of us there from the beginning we expected more. I know some people will say a lot of series don’t follow the book to a tee, but this was so far off base for many fans it was a turnoff.
In the books, Kay Scarpetta is a strong woman with strong beliefs, who does not take shit from anyone male or female, that is not the case in the series. Benton, her lover and later husband is a regal, intelligent, New Englander in the books, in the series we get a hokey actor with a Southern accent who’s also a psychopath. Pete Marino, her side kick in the books is a huge man (overweight) at first, but then becomes a fitness fanatic, in the series he’s a little guy. And don’t get me started on how they portray Lucy Farrinelli, in the books she’s a high intelligence, bad ass computer genius with red hair and no lack of confidence. So what do they turn her into in the series, a weak, angry, black woman. They brought Jamie Lee Curtis in to play a major role as Kay’s sister Dorothy and it leads to dysfunction and screaming matches (that don’t ever happen in the novels, with an abundance of swearing). In the books the dysfunction is there, but Dorothy is a background character, not an every scene character.
For my part I won’t be watching anymore of the series. I’ll stick to the books. You can’t go that far away from the original premise of the books and expect true fans to be happy in the end.
